We left Medellin a couple of days later than planned because of the invitation we got from Tom Palmer, a passionate BMW rider from the US, who lives in Colombia with his beautiful wife and plans a round-the-world trip on a motorcycle as well with his project http://www.motorradangels.org/
We stayed at Tom's and went for an amazing ride to Guatape together.
Right outside Medellin, which once was the world's murder capital, thanks to the famous drug-lord Pablo Escobar, we visited one of his property - Hacienda Napoles. Back in the days, Pablo had a collection of rare exotic animals there, a private airport and big plans on building mansions, but now its just an amusement park for kids and most of Pablo's buildings have been demolished. I guess Colombians are trying to forget the dark times of Escobar...
Luckily we did find some lovely properties to stay in on our way to Bogota :)
...and we met our neighbours - a couple from Poland, traveling the Americas two-up on a Touratech-equiped BMW F800GS! Check out their adventures on http://latg.pl/
Bogota welcomed us warmly! First, just as we rode into the capital, a random BMW R1200GS rider rode to us literally in the middle of busy traffic to greet us in his city and ask if he could be of any help to us! The BMW people are just amazing all around the world, aren't they? :)
Then, we met up with even more riders - Alejandro and Alejandra on their F800GS and the amazing Iriondo family where all the three men, father and two sons, each ride their own BMW F800GS! And we went for a great ride together in the suburbs of Bogota!
Thanks, guys, you made our time in Colombia even more amazing and we will remember your country as a motorcycling capital of South America! :)
